    2005 Excalibur vibration

Guys. I have a 2005 196 with the Excalibur motor. As some here may recall, I've had the boat since May, and since May I've noticed a weird vibration when pulling skier up and when slowing down. I checked the usual things--alignment, prop, prop shaft, prop strut. Even got a new ACME prop and a new strut. Still the vibration persists. So, I took the boat into my trusted mechanic--expecting him to tell me nothing is wrong, just my imagination.

Boy was I wrong. He just called. They ran the boat up and felt a definite vibration in the motor as well as a heard a troubling knock/noise. The motor has only 230 hours on it and runs great--except for the vibration which is unusual and never experienced before on my three previous Nautiques.

My mech wants to dig into the motor to find out what's wrong. He says its only going to get worse. The motor is under warranty and he's PCM authorized. My mech has been doing this work for over 30 years and builds drag boat motors. He's pretty trustworthy.

Any ideas on the vibration or noise? I'm also worried that the boat will never be the same--even if PCM authorizes installation of a new motor. If I lived near Midwest CC or West Coast CC, I would worry less about it. As it is, we don't even have a CC dealer here.

I'd say since he is PCM certified and it's under warranty, let him do it. You could ask him if he guarantees his work so that he'll fix any problems that may arise after your warranty is up.

There could be a number of things causing it, you say it goes away after you get the skier up until he drops off? What about when accelerating without a skier on?

It's there most of the time. I don't feel it once the boat is on plane. But I do feel the vibration whether I'm pulling a skier or not. It's more prominent when pulling a skier, though.

Sounds like a balancing weight is not there or has adjusted it self. Hopefully it's not a crankshaft issue.
