I recently bought the boat and it looks like the previous owner did not clean the interior before putting it away for the winter last year. So, time to get after it! While the boat is getting new upholstery, I’m going to take the dash off and bring it back to clean it. What should I use that I can get locally, I’ve tried a few things with no success. Also going to update the steering wheel while I have it off.

I'd just use Spray Nine Marine. The key will be to use a soft-bristle brush to get into the grain. Maybe let it soak for a few minutes before using the brush.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Search up 'dash restoration' topic here - may be a good time to clean/strip and repaint the dash with a vinyl trim paint.
At least I think it was a trim paint. Someone had sprayed with it turned out gorgeous.

I had some interior trim pieces on my 70 Mach1 that I refinished over the winter. I did a ton of research on doing this and decided on Colorbond products to do the restoration. I was very happy with the results.

The key is getting everything absolutely clean. I'll repeat, you need to have everything clean and no oils whatsoever on the surface. You'll need all the gauges, switches, etc. removed to do this. I started my process with Dawn dish soap, then grease and wax remover, then finished with rubbing alcohol. I used their adhesion promoter then strictly followed the instructions for application. The results were exceptional. I'm very picky when it comes to restoration and the results IMO were exceptional. I honestly could not tell the parts had been refinished. Better yet the finish remained flexible.
