    2004 226 questions

    Near the end of last season I purchased a 2004 226 in pretty good shape, but it had a trans sensor problem that prevented me from using it until the season was about over. I'm in PA so it's just warmed up enough to warm up the water for the kids so today was the first day back out on the lake and I have some questions.

    The blower blows air out the port side, is the vent on the starboard side for looks or intake or should air be coming out this side also?

    I'm taking on water, the bilge pump ran a couple of times when I was out there, so I'd feel better with a second battery since the boat stays at the dock in the water. It's been in the water a week and a half and started no problem but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Looks like it would fit in the rear corner under the seat behind the drivers seat. Is there a better spot, or is this the right area?

    The starboard ballast keeps filling when i'm underway. Even with the mechanical valve closed. I assume the valve is shot, how hard of a repair is this to install a new one, and where can i get it?

    I can't really say on battery placement in that boat, but I would find out where you're taking on water first. Could be your shaft or rudder packing needs to be re-packed.

      Good advice, but hard for me to accomplish at the moment. I purchased the boat without a trailer and am still without one, so for now it is in the water.

        The second battery on mine came in a battery box strapped to the floor under the rear seat. I will try to take a picture of mine over the weekend

          i have an SV211, similar layout and smaller boat. i have 2 batteries in port and starboard storage compamrtments in back.
          As for the water, definitely forst priority is to resolve.
          the air vents also help vent air through the bilge while you’re underway and naturally let air flow.
          my starboard ballast leaks too even when mechanical valve is closed. because of location of that valve its auoer hard to remove and replace. infoxed it by adding a PVC valve with hose barb fitings in either end and split the ballast hose and put this PVC valve inline with hose. I close that now to keep water out when needed

            Update:

            I've been getting to the lake twice a week and if the boat is taking on water it's little to none. I think what was happening is that the port side ballast tank leaks and this is causing the bilge pump to run. I left the ballast tank full one day and when I returned to the boat days later it was empty.

            The starboard side is a different matter entirely. It is full and won't empty no matter what; the water will drain out of the side of the boat but the gauge never reads any less. It seems to replenish itself as quickly as it is emptying.

            Other than this the boat is a lot of fun, the kids love tubing and I'm learning to wakeboard and trying to get a bit of a wave for wakesurfing, so far the wave is not great.

              Today I got a chance to mess with the ballast tanks a little because the kids got too cold to go on the tube. The starboard tank is full at all times, if I attempt to empty it the pump runs and runs, water spits out of the side of the boat, but the tank stays full. Any advice on what could be causing this?

              Also, the light on the dash used to blink to indicate that the tank was emptying, and this no longer happens.

              The port side tank fills but very slowly. When it gets full, it spits water out of the side of the boat, but much slower than the starboard side. I assume the pump isn't so healthy on this side.

              Only two of the stock speakers are functioning. I took a look at them today and it looks like they are all still connected. I'm going to check out the amp, but some of my speaker grills are shot and I was wondering how to remove the speakers to replace them?

              Thanks in advance for any help in diagnosing my issues..​

                Ballast tanks on the 226’s get loose over time and crack where they bolt in. My starboard side did that. Ended up removing the floors and tanks on both sides and replaced with ballast bags
