HPFP makes strange noise on 1994 SN

    Hi everyone

This HPFP starts screaming soon after engine warms up. At the beginning, while idling, its seems to be OK. It does not make any strange sounds. I've bought it last Autumn from skidim and it worked max 10 hours or so. Can it be faulty..?

p.s. LPFP is new, Fuel filter / water separator is also new.

Please have look at this video:

    Thank you

That definitely doesn't sound good. Does the boat operate fine otherwise (i.e. get up to WOT, or does it stumble out)? The noise to me sounds like either the pump is failing or that it's starving for fuel. I'd probably verify that your LPFP is working and that a power lead didn't get knocked off on the bottom of it. I've also heard of those Carter's getting pretty noisy.

For what it's worth, there are quite a few alternatives out there to the "PCM" one of varying quality. As far as I know, part number 3857650 is the same spec (HPFP part number for OMC/Volvo) and I've seen it listed interchangeably with the PCM part number RA080022 (also Sierra 18-7330). My pump apparently cracked on the outlet fitting, so I have a new one coming tomorrow. I'm giving this one a try (https://www.fuelpumpfactory.com/prod...a3d9072c&_ss=r), which is a little more budget friendly, but not as cheap as a bunch of the amazon ones.

Since you got it from skidim and the fact that it's relatively new, I'd email that video to Vince at skidim and see if they can help you out.

I think Vince retired and skidim has been sold to new owners. I think NautiqueParts bought it.

I've recently ask for advice to skidim support and they text me how to troubleshoot this problem.
They said to bypass the fuel filter and connect fuel supply hose directly to LPFP (which is new). And bingo.! No sound from HPFP. As it turned out, HPFP was starving for fuel.
I can only guess, what caused fuel filter, which is quite knew ( only 10 hours or so) to clog . Anyways, I hope the problem was found and knew fuel filter will solve this issue.
Thanks for help and have a nice day.
