Hi everyone, my last post almost two years ago wound up leading me to a cracked block in my 87 Ski Nautique. Which I am now trying to revive! I found an older 351 PCM engine which I believe came from a fishing guides boat. It looks relatively clean, probably has high miles, and the mechanic who pulled it says it runs. I've looked for quite a while and finding a decent PCM engine seems to be a tall task. So anyways I jumped on it since it was an eBay auction and it ended up only being about $1000 including shipping. Already has the Pertronix electronic conversion so no messing with points!
Going to pull the motor with my dads forklift I was initially thinking the motor would slide up off the motor mounts, but it got hung up on one side so I just unbolted the motor mount and pulled it with the motor. I then took the transmission, flywheel, pressure plate, and motor mounts, and installed those on the fishing guides engine. That all went relatively smoothly with the exception of not knowing the exact torque spec for the pressure plate. I used 25 ft-lbs.
Now when dropping it in is where the trouble has started. The front mounts seemed slightly off and it would not fit. Not knowing what to do I saw that the eyes coming off the motor that connect to the mounts are adjustable. So I loosened the adjustment bolt and hammered it in so it would fit. Now the rear mounts don't appear to line up with the holes that they should. I tried pushing the engine over but it wound up bringing the bell housing very close to hull and still didn't line up. At the time is was just me, a large pipe, and a regular sized crowbar, so I may be able to get those bolts in with some help and a large pry bar!
The motor is clearly an older 351 but I believe it should be able to work in my boat. Any advice on how to proceed? And by the looks of my driveshaft coupling is that okay to reuse?
