    2002 san transmission problems

Seeing if anyone has had this problem. Over the weekend i had a trans failure of some kind. Everything was fine and seemed normal. There was never any slipping or noises from the trans. When taking off just as the boat got on plane it acted like it went to nuetral. I took the cable off and moved the linkage and it does nothing ive checked the fluids they look good they dont seem burnt and theres no shavings that i can tell. If anyone has had something like this happen id appreciate some insight. Also what something like that could potentially cost.

It went into Neutral or it went into limp mode? Limp mode is no RPM revs over idle, but it shifts fine.

Could be a broken damper plate.

im hoping thats all it is and not needing a new trans. is there any rebuilding these transmissions or do you have to just buy a new one. also does anyone know roughly the cost of these things.

This is my guess too. Damper plates aren't expensive, but you do have to get between the engine and transmission to change it. On a vdrive that will be a lot of work. Either way, the transmission is coming out. I'd start there, and if you find a broken damper plate, celebrate a little. If not, there are shops that rebuild these transmissions.
