gotcha. nautique parts is telling me the same thing. they are pretty insistent that it will work with the installation of just the puck. i may do it.

ID:	667931 The map card was already in the boat when I bought it. Here is the box that it came in. Please let me know if the puck works. Also, I really think the $600 puck from Enovation Controls is the same puck as the $1000 one sold through Nautique. If there is any difference, it’s in the software. Click image for larger version

i was just up under my dash and I don't even see where the gps puck would plug in.
the rear of my screen looks like yours. the top left bundle of wires/plug is for radio stuff.
the right plug wires run behind the gunnel on the starboard side I am assuming to the engine area. i don't remember seeing a yellow wire in that bundle...
if I follow my paddle wheel wiring, there is a plug that plugs into a bundle of wires that has 3 other deutch plugs in the loom.
        i don't know...

This is what I think the puck would plug into. On my boat it’s under the dash, but the wires seem to be coming from above, behind the backrest on the bow seat in front of the dash. Maybe yours is up behind that backrest and not visible from under the dash? To mount the puck, I think you’d have to get under the backrest anyway. This whole thing seems like it should be fairly straightforward, but I feel like anything I do would be a gamble if it works unless I can get more info.

This would be the displayless head unit I talked about in post 2 in this thread. I'm pretty sure your boat doesn't have one because I don't think it really has a full Zero Off system. I think your boat has a more basic speed control system. I'm not sure how Nautique is able to use the Zero Off branding on that. I doubt Enovation Controls support would have have any idea how the system on your boat works.

The GPS puck on Nautique Parts vs the ones Enovation Control sells may be the same hardware that's made by ECI. But I doubt they are running the same firmware.

That makes sense. The guy from Enovation Controls seemed very knowledgeable about the true Zero Off systems, but seemed confused about the whole screen integration. I thought Enovation Controls also made the displays for Nautique, so I was surprised he wasn’t more knowledgeable about the screens. Maybe I’m wrong about them supplying the screens for Nautique. Thanks for your help.

eControls and FW Murphy merged in 2009 to become Enovation Controls. eControls was the creator of Zero Off as well as the engine ECUs used by most marine engines. FW Murphy was the company that designed the screens used in most boats as well as a lot of other industrial equipment. So they are all part of the same company now. But they are different divisions of Enovation Controls.

Had a crawler set on ebay for this puck. Found a guy selling 10 of these pucks for $750 each. Questioned him on the firmware and he was unable to confirm what was on the pucks, but offered to sell me one for 1/2 price. Figured it was worth the gamble. I've got a new puck with questionable firmware on the way for $375. Will see if it works.

There had been one at some point before I owned the boat, but it had been removed before I purchased. The map card was already there.

The map card is not needed for GPS speed control to work. You only need the map card if you want to see maps on your screen. The maps aren't very useful IMO. At least not in today's world when you have plenty of map options on your smart phone.

If your boat never had this installed previously, you'll probably need the wiring harness in addition to just the puck.

thanks about the map card info. i don't need maps.
i just want the gps speed control.
my boat does have the wiring harness, i confirmed last year. it was a pain to find, but i eventually did.

i bit the bullet and ordered the puck. i originally ordered it from Nautiqueparts, but they are several weeks out.
i was able to get one on discount from the ebay link. he will allow me to return it if it does not work.

how did you mount the puck? i know the general area of were it goes. what did you use to drill the hole in the gel coat?

                                thanks
