I went to change the coolant in my 2015 Carbon Pro with the 6.0 ZR 409. It has the partial full system with coolant in the block, uses lake water to cool the exhaust manifolds. To drain the coolant you pull the heat exchanger plug, the large hose from the water circulating pump, and the two plus from the cylinder block. For the life of me I can't find the block plugs. I pulled the bolt that holds the knock sensor thinking that was it but nothing, then pulled a second bold on the block that looked like a possible drain plug but nothing came out. In my 2015 owners manual there is no diagram or mention of the block drain plugs for the ZR 409. Does anyone have a picture or diagram that shows where they are? Thanks!

I didn't but I don't think scale is blocking them being there is coolant in the block but I will double check.

Picture of the side of my block. The two red dots are the two bolts I pulled with no luck, the circled area is a large hex nut that I did not open up. I can't see anything else that would drain the block.

Silly question but did you remove the large bolt the knock sensor is connected to in your picture or just the small nut holding on the knock sensor? I am with Jeff, that looks like the correct drain plug on that side and another one should be on the other side.

vision I did remove the large bolt but thanks for checking. All of my boats in the past I could drain the block from this location but not on this one.
mlange Not so much, I have this diagram for my 2015 inboard (see attached) which has what they call a partial full system. A this point I know basically the entire cooling system of where the fresh water flows to cool the exhaust manifolds and where the coolant flows to cool the block.

Right. I have the same system, albeit without the cats. I remember when I did my coolant change for the first time a few years ago that I was scratching my head at where the drain plug was, but with my memory I forget exactly where. I know my picture isn't of a partially cooled system, but #6 in it still shows where the block drain is, which I believe is that big red circled area in your picture that you haven't tried yet.

What type of coolant are you using? When refilling the coolant do you need to burp the system any? And lastly, does the temp gauge read coolant temp or raw water temp and where does it take it’s temp reading from? ZR 409 without the cats.

Dexcool, I hear you do need to burp the system which is another step once I get my coolant out of the block. The temp gauge reads the coolant temperature, not sure where it reads it from. Mine has the cats.
On page 68 https://pcmengines.com/wp-content/up...0-15_3year.pdf of my 2015 owners manual there is a diagram of how to connect a heater (mine has no heater connected) which does use the coolant from the block. These are my next points to see if I can get access to the block coolant to drain.
