Does the Engine ECU require Paddle wheel speed input? PCM330

Hi all

During a winter resto the wiring for my paddle wheel was damaged, I wasn't going to bother replacing it as they are expensive and I run a GPS speedo and GPS stargazer PP but when looking through the wiring info for the PCM excalibur 330 it shows a paddle wheel input.
Can anyone confirm if the engine controller requires the paddle speed input?

No, the ECM does not require the paddle wheel speed input for the normal operation of the engine. Given your use of GPS for speedo and speed control. There isn't any reason to bother fixing the paddle wheel.

The only reason you might want a functional paddle wheel is that PerfectPass will use that sensor for water temperature. If you completely remove the paddle wheel and install the blank, you will lose the water temperature data source.

Thanks for confirming Jeff, do you know which wire colour on the perfect pass takes the water temp sensor? Mine appears to only connect into the aftermarket Faria gauge not the PP.

MN Ryan - not sure about this but you may need to have the 4 line display for water temp. Water temp is front and center on my 4 line PP. If you have the 2 line, it might be buried in some menu.

SilentSeven I installed new StarGazer last summer--I'll have to check it out. I do have functional temp. on my speedometer display, so it's not really necessary, but redundancy is always good.

On my PP setup, the paddlewheel harness plugs directly in the PP module. Guessing your setup goes through the gateway box?

Yeah, it goes through the Gateway. It doesn't look like temp is an option on this version. No biggie.

Some versions will. The gateway versions might not, but the Master Module versions should if they have a paddlewheel input. My 2001 Ski Nautique does.
