My hour gauge has never worked I think it was wired wrong at some point. Oddly enough all other gauges work. When I purchased boat, a dealer had verified the hours by pulling directly from the engine (Excalibur 330). Can this be done with a typical code reader for a car or something else? Also does anyone know what the plug looks like where you hook up? Thanks in advance.

No, I can only be done with a marine specific code reader. Rhinda Diacom is the pretty much the go to. Being a very small market there really aren't many other options. The connector is a 4 or 5 pin flat connector. Usually has a waterproof cover over it.
