I am getting a loud ticking noise at idle when the engine is cold on my 2018 G23 with the H6 motor. I had the dealer mechanic look at it once while checking another issue and he felt it was a bit of belt noise and a non issue. It seems louder now and my warranty is ending soon. Anyone one have a similar issue?

In the old days, we used to use our ear to a long screw driver to isolate noises. Vibration was a little hard on the ear as you would probe around, but it would get you real close to the culprit. One day they came out with a probe specifically designed for narrowing it down, works great. Rattles and tics can be very deceiving to locate without some sort of probing device.

If it's getting more audible, I would narrow it down sooner than later, while still under warranty.
I think you meant to say G23, yes?Last edited by Scooter G; 08-20-2023, 04:16 PM.

It super hard to diagnose engine noises without being able to hear it in person and use a mechanics stethoscope. But the most common tic type noise that goes away when warm, would be a valve train issue such an a sticking or failing lifter. If the boat is under warranty, then they should fix it. Don't accept an answer such as "it's not an issue" or don't worry "it's normal".

I'd look closely for exhaust manifold leaks. They'll frequently sound like a tik tik and then change as the manifold gets to operating temp. Could also be lifters, etc, but I'd include an exhaust leak as a possibility.2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)
