I own a 1984 SN 2001. The raw water pump started leaking so I rebuilt it. The bearings felt good so I didn’t replace them. Well, I should have bc they squeal like a pig. At this point I want to just replace the entire thing. I see the Sherwood is very expensive and then there are aftermarket ones, guessing Chinese. Does anyone have experience with the aftermarket part? Do the work? Do they last? Huge price difference.

If you don't have access to a hydraulic press your not changing the bearings anyway. But if your rebuilding a pump quality NTN bearings can be found for around 13 a piece but now you'd need a new seal as well since you can't easily get the new one removed without ruining it. I have heard the replacements are fine. You just can't replace the cam as it is cast in unlike the Sherwoods that are replaceable. I like the fact that the replacement ones have a bronze bearing carrier like the old Sherwoods did. Your talking about there right? https://www.ebay.com/itm/385575295690?hash=item59c6141aca:g:wyQAAOSwdElkSij 6&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwPn1v8JIqmhxaWQMnZy99DVnf dQ ustVpkDd5AoCg6QTNSMZu3dt5%2FfwD%2Frn36zJxX%2BJ1yTo PMjDB%2FqkiO4ckZtPT%2B%2F63dh1N8eSfRe6zQ5fXKXuecAv g1P1W3v%2FK8%2FFLLa6HbV57XNidaTZgoThkHWcBojWy%2Fn% 2B6LwQSq5T57yGdSH9bpmr85Andx%2F9gfwfiMakpge8CK9qpi w0syIjLw7dhjZqr5l8I7aWwDGNHVRdqm6EaX%2B524KExOjpQP OyHbg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-SvvJTVYg

Hi Gary,
Yes, those are the pumps. I did have access to a press, but sadly, as you mentioned it is a bit late now and the parts I bought were I think over $50 bucks so that was a big waste. So, I guess at this point I will just order the complete unit and be done with it. Unless you have another better idea. Thx for the help. Now if you could solve my backfire issue I would be golden. LOL

Is this the correct one? I have never removed the cap so I do t know what the gasket pattern looks like.

I was wondering if it was anything special or any auto parts store for a 140 degree thermostat for a 351W. Rock Auto would be cheap and fast also.

Sorry I meant thermostat gasket available anywhere. Doubtful on Rock or local they are high flow low temp, Summit Racing might usually under the Moroso brand. Engines run better at higher temps - your car has the radiator under pressure to raise the boiling point so it can run even hotter. Your boat is an open non pressure system. When your engine was built they don't know where and what kind of water it's going to be in- heated saltwater will eat cast iron so they run a cool stat on them all.Last edited by gary s; 09-19-2023, 09:48 PM.

I sort of figured that out when I didn’t see any 143 degree Thermostats for sale other than boating supply vendors. I went w DIM. Thanks for your help. I wish someone would post some suggestions about my backfire issue on my other thread. Love my boat until it doesn’t run right. Not being a mechanic is a challenge and our lake is so small the only mechanic on the lake should be called a bank robber.
