Hello All, Long time lurker first time poster.
We acquired a 2003 SN 196 Limited that had been left outside for 7 years in 2021. When we got it the engine was tight. Worked fogging oil and some PB blaster rust remover in the cylinders over the course of several weeks and got the engine to turn over by hand. Drained nasty fuel, cleaned fuel system, new plugs etc and when we finally got it to run it showed 154.5 hours. At end of last season it developed a condition where when pushing start on the key pad it would click, sounded like it was coming from the solenoid/starter. I bought a new starter from Nautique Parts and that did not cure the issue. Old starter was nasty rusty so glad I replaced it. Over winter we connected a known good battery with independent battery cables directly the starter and engine ground and it would turn over 10/10 times. So I replaced the battery in the boat which was new when we first got the boat and all was well early this season. I also replaced the cable ends at that time. Now later in the season we are back to the same symptoms. Battery reads good voltage but the solenoid seems to have a significant voltage drop on the multi meter when pushing start. Is this likely bad cables or what else should I chase? The engine also revs high on start now when the issue occurs.
Thanks for any and all help. Hoping to solve this in the next week or so before I put the boat away in Wisconsin til April
