    RE: Re: RE: Winterization necessary?

Up here in the Seattle/NW area, we can get a few days in the freezing point area to worry about, but not too often. With that being said, I know of at least a few people who have had frozen blocks and cracked exhaust manifolds for NOT winterizing. Even if I know it is going to be more than a few weeks before using my boat, I usually drain the manifolds, and sometimes the block too, even though I store mine in an attached insulated garage (i don't like the thought of rusty water sitting in the manifolds). I usually pull the impeller too just so that it doesn't sit in one position for too long, and gives me another excuse to rap my nuckles on the engine as I take it out! I second East-Tx-Skier, that it gives you a whole new perspective on your boat, AND, hopefully, gives you some education so that when you or a buddy needs some maintenance, you can handle it on your own...and save the shop hr/labor in the same right.

Maybe another topic, ...but what do all of you use to lube your impeller when you replace it? I am use a non-petrolleum base, but what do you guys use???

      Impeller lube

I have a spray bottle with a diluted mixture of Dawn and water. I use it on the impeller, and in the housing, for cleaning upholestry, lubricating when I am wet sanding, and a whole lot of other uses. I just used an empty bottle of some other non toxic spray stuff, for the bottle.

I think the last one I got was from overtons as I was ordering a pump that was not available at skidim. It actually came with a little tube-o-lube, which was glycerine. So, it's basically astroglide or ky or the like. I've used soapy water, too. Since I put mine in at the beginning of the season (usually right before I head to the lake), I don't worry too much about soap on the impeller as it'll get washed away pretty quickly.

Resqfish, to fog the cylinders just remove the plugs and find a spray bottle to spray into the plug holes. Pull your lanyard, so the boat wont start, and kick the starter a few times so the pistons distribute the oil to cylinder walls. Return the plugs and lanyard. Store your impeller out of the sun and elements.
