    Winterizing transmission

I hate to post again, but I am worried I missed a step in winterizing my boat for the first time. I know I got the engine components correct, but it is the transmission that I am worried about and the boat is shrink wrapped and sitting for the winter.

I have a 2002 sport nautique with direct drive, my question is there a water drain plug on this transmission? I could not find one and does water run into the transmission. I am worried that I missed this and feel I need to get into the boat before we have any deeper freezes and I do major damage.

There’s actually not water flowing through the transmission itself. Transmission fluid is cooled by going through the externally mounted heat exchanger where incoming water cools it and back into the transmission. Draining the heat exchanger is sufficient for winterization. If you ever see water in the transmission fluid, it’s because the exchanger failed.
