    GT40 Exhaust Manifold Flushing

When I winterized the boat I noticed a fair bit of rust flakes coming out when I pulled the exhaust manifold plugs, more on one side than the other.

I see in the manual they suggest "Using a garden hose, flush both manifolds by removing the plug". Has anyone done this to their boat? There's not much room between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust down pipes where the plug is; its not like I could install an elbow or anything to direct the water. Seems like attaching a garden hose to the manifold inlet is going to result in water spraying all over the place. Not clean water either; nasty brown water!

Anyone actually do this? And if they did was there some way they avoiding making a massive mess?

This is one of those sticky points. Removing the plugs can be a tricky process. Often they'll seize in the risers and break when you try to remove them. If you can get them out easily, then sure, do what you can to flush them. Most people don't bother with this. I never did on my 99 Air Nautique. I had that boat for 17 years with no issues.
