I suspect the G23 may have hydraulic steering. If so, check that the fluid isn't low and that system is working properly.
For non-hydraulic steering I've seen similar symptoms when there is play or slack in components of the steering system. First thing to check is for wear in the rudder port. Grab the rudder and see if it'll rock in any direction. It should not. If it does, then the rudder port is worn and likely needs to be replaced. Next have someone hold the steering wheel from moving, or lock it in place somehow, and see how much you can twist the rudder back and forth. There should be only a slight amount of play. If there is a lot, then examine all the of the steering linkage and cable. Lastly, if you haven't greased your rudder port recently, you should. There should be a zerk grease fitting on the port. Sometimes there is a tube attached to locate the zerk fitting in an easier to reach place. In my experience, you need a pretty good quality grease gun that'll lock onto the zerk fitting pretty securely.Last edited by jpwhit; 03-08-2024, 02:56 AM.

The 2021 G23 has power-assisted steering. This symptom indicates the steering system needs to be recalibrated. See the instructions in attached file. If this problem persists contact your dealer to have the steering system serviced or replaced. Also, do not rush the start-up sequence by pressing the start button to fire up the engine until after the checks complete. This can cause the power steering to be difficult since it has not properly completed initialization.Last edited by greggmck; 03-08-2024, 10:14 AM.

NC..G21....Yeah...I've had it happen to mine a couple of times. Like Gregg said above, start the boat properly. When it did happen to me, I just stopped, powered everything down, and restarted. It was good the rest of the day. One thing to mention, this only happened to me while I was ballested and in Surf mode. Never happens when just cruising slow or at any other speed.

NC_G21 Here is the file... I had this same issue with my G23 towards the end of last season, and I am definitely going to try this before having to trailer it down to service this spring.
