    2022 ZZ6 failures?

    Hi all,

We have a 2022 G23 and perform all routine maintenance. Our first motor failed at 300 hours (lost compression on cylinder 8, speculated a dropped valve). Our second engine just failed after another 40 hours - cylinder 6 is compromised, possibly others. This seems like an extremely high failure rate. Has anyone with a 2022 ZZ6 logged more than 350 hours? Anyone else had a failure?

I’m looking specifically for feedback from those that use their boat a LOT, as I’m sure plenty of folks with lower utilization haven’t had issues. At this point I’m leaning toward getting a different boat with a different engine…

    Thanks!

RiggerJon - not answering your exact question, as we have a 2020 G21 with the ZZ6. But just an FYI, we have around 500 hours, no engine issues. I haven't heard anything negative at all about the ZZ6, really sorry to hear of your troubles

      Hi Bob,

      Appreciate the response.

We had a 2015 G23 with a ZZ6 that we had 750 hours total on when we sold it to a friend. That was a great engine, and it’s still going strong. However, the 2022 is a different version of the ZZ6. I’m not sure when the (those?) version changes occurred, but it was readily apparent based on how loud the engines ran (newer is louder). This is why I’m looking for more feedback on the 2022 model, and from folks that have put significant time on it.

RiggerJon - understood. The change in designation from the H6 to the ZZ6 started with the 2020 MY, I believe. Not sure when any other changes were made to this engine.

Ah, my mistake. I didn’t recall the 450hp engine had a different designation back then.

I do hope I’ve just been incredibly unlucky with the ZZ6, but I just can’t help but wonder if it could be a bigger issue given the circumstances.
