    211 Engine Questions

    Need help please...bought a 2008 SV211, engine was bad and needed to be replaced. (long story) I local boat shop gave me options to replace...1) stock 5.7 300hp, 2) 350 hp engine, 3) 383hp Black Scorpion. I choose the 383 hp. It's been 7 months and I keep getting a different story about this engine...#1 being having issues with the 383 cam being too aggressive to work with the fuel injection computer...#2 now the cam / engine are still at a machine shop and then today #3 im being told I may have issues down the road with this engine/cam and that I should look at a stock 5.7 engine. After 7 months, $7k deposit on the engine. My question is: do you suggest the ZR6, 330 Excaliber or a stock 5.7 for this boat? I want the most power possible but would like the engine plug and play and not so modified. I know 0 about engines.... Thank you!!! Steve

    You need to stick to stock set up, ECM programming is almost impossible to modify for marine applications. now if you buy a complete engine, ECM, and all. a complete turn key, then go as big as will fit and match you to Transmission.
    I do not believe PCM ever offered a 383, so there will be no engine calibration, so your air fuel ratio will be way off and destroy the engine. Id also find another shop for leading you down the wrong road!

      Agree with the other reply. I replaced the engine in my ‘05 a few years ago and went with the same motor. No problems whatsoever.

        I would also stay stock. I assume it had the Excalibur. My '07 211 has the Excalibur 330, and it moves the boat well.

          Thank you! I am in the process of getting a quote to replace to the same 5.7 that I currently have in the boat. The guy is quoting a-la-carte. Engine, $x, Sensors, Fuel Cell, Pickup Pump, Heat Exchanger, Trans plate, ring gear, exhaust manifold, risers and mounting kit...all extras. Is it possible to buy a complete motor with everything included? The price went from the original quote of $12,500 to $20-22k. I prefer not use any of the old parts that are salt rusted. Thanks so much!!!

            Yes, you can buy complete ready to install engines from PCM. But, the 5.7L is no longer available. GM no longer makes the base 5.7L engine, so it's no longer offered by GM Marine to the marinizers. PCM also no-longer offers a non-catalytic converter engine. So it's even harder to get an engine to go into older boats. The Cat engines are larger so they often won't fit without modifications to the engine compartments on older boats. Last bit of bad news, the engines offered now are a good bit more expensive than the old 5.7L engine.

              Skip bought the last few EX 343's that PCM made. This may be your only option to get a new 5.7L PCM engine.
