    2001 AN Oil PSI

I purchased a 2001 Air Nautique at the end of the season last year, it ran great and everything seemed very tight.

After dewinterizing and changing the oil I took it out for the first time this year. Everything seemed fine until I went to idle after a hot lap - oil pressure dropped and check engine light came on. Once I gave it some throttle the pressure shot back up to 60 where it seems to sit while cruising.

I’ve read a few forums and decided changing the oil sending unit might fix the issue which I did this past weekend and still have the same problem. Does anyone have other suggestions for moving forward? How concerned do I need to be about the check engine light? Am I still okay taking it out until I get this resolved?

PSI is 40 when starting the boat, 60 WOT, and drops to 30/35 at idle. I will say it has been on the colder side when I’ve gone out to test things (roughly 50 degrees).

30-35psi at idle warm is no where near low oil pressure and shouldn’t be anywhere close to making the sensor say low pressure. I believe the sensor is suppose to trip around 7-10psi. Your pressures sound right on for your different scenarios. I could be wrong, but I think there is a separate gauge pressure sensor and low pressure warning switch.

What weight oil are you running?

For piece of mind you could put a temporary mechanical gauge on the engine to check pressures… make sure the gauge is reading correct.

When I come off WOT, I will also get an oil Alarm as well.
My guess is the previous owner put 50W oil in to prevent this situation.
You could test this coming off of WOT and slow increments down to idle. If you get no alarm, then it’s probably the oil weight

I’m running SAE40 but I’m not sure what the owner had in there before.

I’ll try going out tomorrow and take slow increments down to ideal and report back.

Replaced the oil pressure switch and no check engine light so far! All my PSI readings are about the same as before.

After changing the part the PSI stuck at 80 for roughly 5 minutes but dropped back to normal after.
