    OJ Prop?

Can anyone tell me what this prop is? Is it for speed or low end? It came with my boat as an extra and still has a sticker on it but not sure if it was a refurb.

I think it says OJ 6546 but looks like it was stamped twice

All the stamping on the hub would imply it's been rebuilt multiple times. OJ has retired a lot of older prop numbers and often you can't find the details of the older number on the internet. Just call OJ and ask them.

May also be worth throwing it on the boat and just see how it performs. Sometimes rebuilt props run smoothly and sometime they don't. If it doesn't run very smoothly, I'd say it's only good as an emergency backup prop.

It's also likely not a CNC built prop, and modern CNC props are just simply a lot better than older props. You can tell a CNC prop because it has grooves in the surface of the prop. And you can tell if a CNC prop has been rebuilt because they have to grind the grooves smooth in the area of any manual rework on the prop.

Great info. Thanks for the reply. I do want to run it and see what difference it makes. My 96 GT40 tops out around 43mph with the current prop. It seems like it is for lower end as it just pushes through the water no problem.

Ski boats hulls are designed for great wakes with low spray, not for speed. 43mph is a pretty respectable speed for a ski boat, why would you want to try to make it any faster? You hear people refer to ski boats as Slalom Tractors. That's a pretty good analogy in my opinion for a ski boat. They are sort of built more like a tractor to tow skiers. The hull feature that make for small wakes and low spray create a lot of drag as speed goes up. So there are pretty significant dimensioning returns to try and push them much faster than the mid 40s.

I don't ski or wakeboard much just wanting to see if i can get a higher end speed out of this different prop.

I'm all in just to see what the difference is, always up for the tach vs speedometer experiment.
Let's see how it goes, hold my diet coke and watch this...

Sure no reason not to give the one you have a try, and I'd love to hear the outcome, but just trying to set expectation about getting much more speed out of these hulls.
