After summerizing the boat, and getting everything in place, she cranked right up on the first crank with the fake-a-lake connected at the inlet under the boat. Waited a little bit, saw the sea strainer cup fill up, but no water was coming out of the exhaust. Kept it running, until we reached around 160* ET, and still nothing. The only time water came out was when I revved the engine, but then at idle it was barely a few drops coming out. I know the T-Stat has nothing to do with the water going through the cooling system and risers to keep the exhaust wet. What could be the causes to these symptoms? clogged impeller housing passages? Saw another recent post where the boat needed to go up to 200* to have the T-Stat open up and then temp dropped rapidly, but might be a different situation. thanks

Start by checking for suction leaks on the line between the through hull pickup and the raw water pump- ie / loose clamps that allow air to draw into the engine, not water.2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)

I like where Seven is going, it doesn't take much to have an issue here and I've seen dealers leave hoses entirely off.
You don't mention if you did the impeller last fall or who did the winterization. If you did it, its time to start checking your work. If someone else did it I start with looking for the impeller either by the helm or by the engine. It was very common back in the day to pull the impeller after winterization and leave it out so the impeller vanes didn't take a "set" over the winter. Typically, whoever did the winterization would leave the impeller attached to the steering wheel or on the dash to remind the owner to reinstall. It's possible the Fake-A-Lake has enough pressure from the hose to fill up the strainer.
Either way my next move would be to first inspect the hoses then pull the impeller to see what's going on there. It's a pretty simple system so troubleshooting should go quick. Let us know what you find.....

As noted above, it is possible you have an air leak on the suction side. The fake a lake may be filling the strainer, but the pump is not pulling water.
The good news, as long as you did not run it hot (and it sounds like you didn't) there is no damage. Check the impeller for any damage. If none, you should be good to go once you figure out the issue.

Also...another quick check - make sure the o-ring on the strainer cup is installed. Bturner is right that whomever did the winterization may have left hoses loose.2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)

Some real solid insight guys, thanks for all of this!
Regarding who does the work on the boat, that's me... I pull the impeller in the fall, and keep it safe in my boat tool kit in the garage. Upon inspection at de-winterizing, it looked good to me with no signs of wear. I never disconnected any hoses at winter layup, but something could have come loose on its on. I am typically thorough about my work, but I def. could have missed something. I have a new impeller on order to arrive tomorrow, so Ill see how things look in one go when I receive it. Strainer cup also DOES have the O-ring. Ill follow the trail starting at thru hull, up to the impeller. Hoping I nail the issue.

Just to troubleshoot the easiest possible issue, are you on a hill? My driveway is not level and when I run my boat there it takes a fair number of minutes for water to come out the exhaust. That muffler is pretty big and collects water like a pool.

CarlitosAir Funny timing - I'm in the same situation at the moment.
I took my boat to a mechanic to be summerized with a new impeller. After he installed the new impeller, he hooked a garden hose up to the engine with a modified strainer cup that accepts the garden hose and started the boat with no problems - water coming out of the exhaust per usual.
Then I took the boat to get inspected where they run every boat's motor off of a fake-a-lake with hot water to kill invasive bacteria and water wasn't coming out of the exhaust. I didn't run the boat for more than 30 seconds with no water coming out.
So my predicament is that I know water will run through the engine if it is picked up at the strainer cup but I don't know if water will run though the engine when I put it in the lake through the raw water intake.
I posted this to the OG210 Owners Facebook and most of the responses were below:
- bad seal between fake a lake and hull
- not enough time for water to move from the fake a lake through the engine and exit the exhaust
- not enough PSI from the garden hose/fake a lake
- some air leak on the suction side
- raw water pump installed upside down
- impeller fins pointing the wrong way
I'm going to put the boat in the lake tomorrow and run it hoping that engine temps stay appropriate and chock this up to a weird fluke with the inspection station's fake a lake.
Please keep us updated and I'll do the same!
Good luck!

Water comes out of the exhaust regardless of if the thermostat is open or closed. The Thermostat just controls how much of the cold raw water goes into the engine cooling loop to displace hot water in the engine loop. All the excess cold raw water, along with any hot engine loop cooling water displaced goes into the exhaust manifolds to cool the exhaust and provide sound deadening.
Are you sure the raw water seacock valve is open??

I know my boat spits water or in other words, water, no water, water, no water out the exhaust on a fake a lake. It does seem to take a while to also get to that point. 1st time I did it, I thought I had on the wrong port underneath. Warmed it up for a oil change, but kept an eye on the exhaust manifold and engine temps, all was good, but have never had a boat cycle water like that. Wondering if it does that while in the water.
