1984 CC Ski Nautique
Been looking into restoring the shine to the Hull, and many steps I read about are as follows:
1. acid wash (oxalic or muriatic if really bad)
2. buff with oxidization remover (OR wet sand if really bad and want to sand out scratches)
3. buff with polish
4. buff with wax
In the third image, you'll see the progress i made with some starbrite cleaner (still need to do more because of some remaining scum line).
So i have some questions for next steps:
My "decal" ("SKI NAUTIQUE" across the hull) appears to be negative-space where they tapped it off and painted the stripes. I think the only decal I actually have is the "2001" and registrations stickers.
1. I only used oxalic acid on the water line & below... Can i use it on the painted stripes and and rest of the hull?
2. Do I need to do full oxidization removal? I can't tell if my boat is actually oxidized and needs this or just needs polish/wax... and will this damage the stripes?
3. Based on the above, is this someone a complete first-time-owner can/should do themselves? Or is it a "pros only" job?
