343 Excal Flame Arrestor Removal

Dumb question but does the flame arrestor on the 343 Excal just pull straight off, spin off or something else I am missing? Mine looks a little clogged so want to pull it off and clean it. The boat(2012 230) is running great but since it is new to me, I am just working my way through all of the routine maintenance items so they are on a known schedule going forward. Here is what it looks like with the cowl removed.

Thanks Jeff that is what I suspected. Once the rain moves on I will try that and update this thread in case others have this same question in the future.

I'm surprised they would pull off, because part of their function is to contain backfires through the intake system. Seems like a backfire would just blow them off. I can check the one on my 200 when I'm at the ski lake tomorrow. Now I'm curious.....

it will pop off once you remove the nuts.
give it a tap with a 2x4 or rubber mallet

rukuus when you say remove the nuts, are you talking about the 4 nuts that hold down the cowl? There are no visible nuts directly on my arrestor.

jpwhit you make a good point. I bet the nuts that hold the cowling in place also would keep the arrestor from coming off in the event of a backfire as there is not enough space for it to come off without the cowling being removed.

yes, the nuts hold the cover and the arrestor on.
