2003 Ski Nautique 196 Excalibur 330 engine surging (LPG)

We have a 2003 Ski Nautique with the Excalibur 330 engine converted to run on LPG. Initially, after a couple of skis into the season, the engine started cutting out whilst idling and eventually backfired. The backfiring we think was due to the timing being slightly out We've timed it back to 10 deg now and it's not backfiring but continues to surge continually at idle.

The LPG system has an Impco Model L vaporiser which has recently been serviced changing the diaphragms and an Impco 425 mixer which has also been recently serviced.

We found that pulling the exciter wire out of the back of the alternator seemed to stabilise the engine at idle and stop the surging.

We've had a UK LPG specialist called Alternatech out to try and identify the issue with no luck!

Last year we changed the distributor cap, leads and spark plugs.

The high pitch noise seems to be coming from the mixer sucking a lot of air in. It seemed to stabilise a bit when the technician forced the air valve closed.

Any help would be very appreciated!

    Many thanks in advance
