1995 PCM Pro Ski not getting water to sea strainer or engine

Issues getting water from lake. Installed brand new impeller. Engine runs fine with water hose just beyond sea strainer. Also water comes out of the bottom of the boat when going in reverse, hose to intake side of strainer. Bad strainer sucking air? Black rubber gasket is in place. Has anyone experienced this?

You have an air leak somewhere between the input port on the raw water pump and the thru hull. Common examples, crack in strainer cover, crimped hose fitting on transmission cooler, crack in fitting or elbow, some kind of aftermarket flush valve along that path that is letting air in, cracked transmission cooler, etc.

Personally I'll never have a flush connector on a boat. If I buy a boat and it has one, it's the first thing I take off and I replace the hose with a new continuous piece. The source of too many reliability issues and too many engine replacements due to overheats IMO.

Thank you sir, this flush connector has been on this boat since I bought it in 2011. I'll take your advise and go with continuous hose. Only concern is the hydrillla is coming back strong in Lake Austin this summer.

Up to you if you leave the flush connector or not, but you need to figure out if that's where you have an air leak or somewhere else.

Understood, put all new water hoses in last fall, pretty confident it is the fc so going to place a new one. Thank you again for your support!
