Any tips on freeing a struck transom drain plug?

Need to remove my transom drain plug but it's not coming free. I don't want to overly reef on it as I'm nervous the hull side housing will tear out. Anyone have any tricks to free up a stuck plug?

As long as I have owned this boat....I've never removed it - I always use the mid hull plug.

Soak it with acetone / ATF mixture. 50/50 mix. Give it several hours...or even over night. That should free things up. Then, install with a little marine grease on the threads.

Be very selective with what that acetone touches, a few drops on threads will go a long ways...

Turns out PB Blaster penetrating oil works great. Sprayed it and let it soak a few minutes and it spun right out.

Acetone and ATF sounds like a serious old school mechanics hack!

If it’s on the trailer, loosen the turn buckle and/or the winch strap, having them taught will affect how easily the drain plug comes out.
