2006 Nautique 226 LE - Lost All Gauge Function Including LCD

Went out yesterday and after being under way a short time I watched all of the needles on all of the gauges drop for a split second, then continue to function normally. An hour later all gauges ceased functioning completely, large and small. No LCD display - nothing. All had been working fine.

The four smaller gauges had been recently repaired, so I suspected that a connection might have come loose after reinstalling the console. Upon removing the console all plugs were snug with exception of a small rectangular plug, which wasn't fully engaged and latched. Problem solved I thought.

I started the motor but there was still no life in any of the gauges.

Checking the fuse and breaker panels there doesn't appear to be a fuse or circuit breaker directly associated with the gauges.

I have the paddlewheel so no issues with water making it up to the gateway.

The behavior mimics a faulty connection, so I think I'll pull the console one more time and disconnect/reconnect all plugs and examine the metal prongs in the plugs. as well.

Any thoughts about what the cause may be or additional things to check would be appreciated.

Also, I found this 1-inch long bit of metal on the carpet under the console after reassembly. No idea what it is nor whether it came from inside the instrument console.

Sounds like the Faria gateway may have failed. This is a known problem. 2003 thru 2009. Do some searches for “Faria gateway” here and on CorrectCraftFan. Lots of reading. The fix is $1,350 on NautiqueParts.com

The gateway (on my boat) is located in the rear trunk and mounted vertically on the transom. All the engine “telemetry” goes to the gateway and then up to the dash gauges. My 2003 had pitot pick-ups for the speedometer. The pitot tubes fed into the gateway. Bad idea. If the water pressure from the pitot pick-ups leaks into the gateway box, then the electronics can fail. My box was OK, so I disconnected the pitot tubes. Now my main speedo doesn’t work, but my gateway box stands a chance to continue working. I will likely install a GPS speedo…or I may even bite the bullet and upgrade to the NP fix referenced above.

    Your mileage may vary.

If it is like my 04 196 the speedo lines leak water into the gateway, I pulled mine out and took it apart and let it dry out for a week then sealed it up put it back in the next weekend, plugged the speedo lines and all gauges are still working 5 years later.

I have the paddlewheel vs. the pitot tube, so water on the gateway is one less concern. Techbeer has suggested a few items to check and next in line is voltage to the gateway based on checks thus far. I don't have a 12v wire tester so no progress till after the 4th.

Given the cost and time investment of replacing all gauges, I want to be 100% certain that the gateway is the issue.
