    Best Battery

I have been around boats all my life , now this one has been dropped in my hands to revitalize . The mechanical part I am a bit rusty as I am a female. I have a question regarding the battery. I see so many different batteries . Can anyone tell me what is a good one the model and make of the battery because its all confusing to me . If I could get a few suggestions beings we are all Nautique owners. I went to purchase one yesterday at auto parts store and it just baffled me . I took the old battery for reference and the employees know nothing what so ever about boat batteries. they did not have any in stock. So looking online is also confusing. I am looking at 10 best boat batteries' which one do you think is good for boat ? Its for a 2002 Ski Nautique PCM 5.0 Thank you all in advance.

I would get an interstate brand marine starting battery. What group size is the current battery? It should be on the label on the existing battery, I can’t remember what size/group was in my 196

Thanks for your reply. After looking around and from what others are using I am going to just get the same one that came out. There are so many to choose from very confusing. I did learn alot about the battery though. I appreciate your help. I'm thinking just get the Napa Legend .

What are you looking for--mainly a starting battery, or do you have lot's of accessories (i.e. big stereo, etc) that you need extended run time from? For a basic '02 Ski Nautique without an excessive stereo, pretty much any battery will do the trick. Personally, I'd just find an appropriately-size, dual-purpose battery and be done with it. Sure, you can spend a lot more money and get a few more years out of a battery, but IMO, it's not worth it unless your application would benefit (which with that boat, I don't imagine it would).

I have one Optima in my boat (came with the boat), and while it's been good to me, when it dies, I will just replace it with a normal lead-acid battery.

When in doubt, pull the battery out and take it to Batteries Plus or any auto parts store and they will get you squared away.

The group size for battery is labeled on the underside of the battery compartment cover

For a pure ski boat with no big stereo, unless you're looking to get away from the downsides of lead/acid and willing to live with the downsides of AGM (price, new charger if you have grandpa's old charger) I'd do an Interstate. Hard to go wrong with an Odyssey either but an Interstate will probably be harder to find locally. Another brand I've used and liked was Deka.

This is spot-on. There's no good reason to get into a specialized battery unless you have a special application. They're VERY expensive and your particular application may not call for it. I tend to stick with Interstate only because my dealer (White Lake Marine) has been using them for decades.
