Safety switch Lanard other issues not starting

Hi, I had my safety switch go out and I replaced it. I still won't start some of the time. I am nervous turning it off while out on the water. It starts sometimes but other times it does not. I hear the engine charge when I put the safety switch in, but it does now turn over most of the time. Any ideas on what could be causing this???

My bet is the throttle base assembly (TBA) is going bad - known problem in this generation of boats. The safety lanyard kills the fuel pump, so if you push start once and you hear the pump kick in, and you get no crank on trying to start - most likely that’s the neutral safety switch module inside the TBA unit that thinks the boat is in gear when it’s not, and then prevents the boat from being started.

same thing happened in my 2018 - random no starts with no attempt to crank the engine over.

the TBA is what the throttle handle is bolted to, there are sticky posts on this site and ball of spray on how to replace it. If you handy it’s not a hard swap.

one side effect of lots of lugging or failed starts with H5/H6 direct injection engines is it can also cause fuel dilution in the oil, so check you oil level and if it’s more than full, you have fuel dilution and you need to change the oil asap. Oil analysis confirmed this in my case.
