Engine part ID help

When trying to start the engine it sounds like a cellenoid not engaging. The picture with the black knob with white hash mark rotates slightly and then stops within a few seconds. If I try to hit the start button again no sounds of the cellenoid or rotation of the knob occurs. If I hit stop and try to restart multiple times the gold part gets hot to the touch. Can someone help me identify the part I’m pointing to with the black knob? The boat is a 2003 Ski Nautique.

That's your PerfectPass servo motor. It sounds like it is doing what it is supposed to do. It should auto-tension when the ignition is first turned on. The resistor is supposed to get hot like that.

^^^^ +1 to what Jeff said. That's your perfect pass solenoid.

Now if you're having throttle or starting issues, it's possible it's not correctly adjusted.
