2012 230 Lake Water Temp not Reading

I have a 2012 230 without LINC so I have the Nautique Cruise gauge and paddle wheel instead of Zero Off. The water temp reading on that gauge is always showing 32 degrees which I am guessing is the lowest possible reading and it is thus not getting a signal. Air temp works fine as does depth readings on the same gauge. I assume depth is read off a transducer but water temp should be coming from the paddle wheel? I am hoping the previous owner replaced the paddle wheel but forgot to hook up the water temp sender wire or it otherwise came disconnected. I am plan to dig into this soon but please let me know if anybody has any ideas for me to check on this.
