    2016 SAN G25 Linc screen dead…

Howdy all - while switching riders yesterday, I tapped the fill ballast on my Linc screen and it went black. Nothing would revive it. I powered down, batteries off, restarted, nothing. I even found a dealer open 3 states away that had a service manager look up the master code for my boat via hull number in the Nautique dealer system. Still nothing. When I power up the boat, the right side blue light under the start button just flashes after I try to enter the code. I’m waiting for Race City Marine in Charlotte to open tomorrow in hopes they can reveal a simple fix… I tried entering the code before pushing the start button as well as after. Returning to the dock last night, no NCRS etc and I’ve got about 2k of ballast in the tanks.

    I welcome any/all experiences of the collective…

Bummer. I've found with my 2016 when it's bricked (it's happened twice) it's very hard to self diagnose the issue. It's all modules and computers and there could be a short just about anywhere causing the issue.

For instance on my first brick, the depth finder sending unit had shorted and apparently the ignition runs through there for 2016 (changed in subsequent years). I would have never figured that out.
Hopefully your local dealer mechanic can help find the root cause if it's not the screen itself.

Kmayotte, what happened on your 2nd rodeo?
Not too excited to hear about screens going out on a '16.
If I was stuck with 2000 lbs of ballast I would need to start pulling hoses, no way that's going on the trailer, or at least down the road like that. I would assume the bilge still works, being separate from the LINC.
Sorry to hear Swampwrench, let us know what you discover, would hate to drop $4600 on a experiment...

Second issue was the boat would turn over but not start. Culprit was a bad connection in fuse/relay block that was losing power to fuel pump. Dealer disassembled, repaired wire terminal and replaced relay.
        $9 part (R130015)
3.5hrs labor to diagnose, repair, test.
        $656 total.

Pricey but can't imagine how many hrs I would have wasted not being able to find the issue. Probably after buying a new fuel pump for no reason.

For what it's worth, if I go through the start procedure too fast, my screen won't turn on. I have to do a hard restart to get it to turn on in that scenario.

My uneducated guess on the dead screen is something similar, fuse or relay cutting power, not a broken screen itself.
But again, I have no idea.

Before the screen went dark, the sound system was acting a little wonky. The Polk unit kept going in and out of pairing mode for Bluetooth.

Man, I don't know that I would have been able to isolate either of those problems on my own, maybe, but like you said how many hours. Took notes in my head.

Hoping Kmayotte is correct and it is something somewhat minor related.

Good to know on the audio Swampwrench, I'll start freakin' out a little if that starts to happen. We do get an occasional pop through the speakers on engine kill that has me a little concerned.

jpwhit is sharp on the electronics, maybe he has an idea or 3 for ya.

The power up sequence on all the boats with the 7" LINC screens is a little complicated. It involves the Keypad, Power Distribution Module, LINC screen, and an auxiliary power relay driven by the PDM. All of the electronic modules are on the CanBus and communicate with each other over the bus. Once the master power switch is on the process starts with the keypad. The keypad takes control of the PDM and initializes it with a sequence of messages over the bus. Then the keypad sends a message to the PDM to engage the auxiliary power relay. That relay primarily powers the Audio System and the LINC screen. Then the LINC screen boots, and it takes over control of the PDM.

Any of the electronic modules involved in that process could cause the problem. Or if the CanBus gets disrupted by a bad device on the bus, it can prevent the power-up sequence. A good example is the AirMar water temp and depth bi-ducer's have a tendency to fail in a manner where they disrupt the CanBus.

I'm not sure why Nautique has made this so complicated. It's not nearly so complicated on MasterCraft's boats with essentially the same screen and PDM. On the MasterCraft you turn the key switch and that sends power to all the other electronics. Between this, the wonky throttle base assemblies, and ballast level sensor on the Nautique, there seems to be so many problems with the Nautique wake boats. Besides Nautique's, I mostly work on MasterCrafts, and they just haven't made things so unnecessarily complicated.

JpWhit - is there a way I can access the canbus and unplug components one at a time to potentially isolate an offending component?

Dang Swampwrench, that's a rough one, so sorry to hear. Prime peak of boating season to boot.
Good luck man, hope JP can help you out...

                            Saved by JPWhit!!

I got the boat from the dealer and met up with JP. He was able to diagnose and fix my display issue in fairly short order… saving a significant portion of our summer in the process. He's definitely the man! So glad for this forum and the people on it!!
