Check engine light issue

Replaced impeller a month ago and ran boat the next day with no issues.

Changed oil and filter Saturday. Took out the boat on Sunday. Check engine light came on when the boat started and remained on. Oil was right at the add level so added a bit more and came up to just below full.

Ran boat for maybe 5 minutes with the check engine light on. Oil pressure and temp was perfectly fine on the gauges.

Turned off boat and shut off batteries thinking it might reset the check engine light. Turned on motor again and check engine light still on. Ran at idle for maybe a minute. Then engine ran rough/bogged down for a couple seconds then shut off on its own.

Took about 40 min to an hour to get towed back to the dock. At the dock turned the motor on, check engine light was still on but ran fine at idle. Drive onto the trailer and shut it off.

1) is there anything that causes the check engine light to come on other than a temp issue or oil pressure issue? There wasn’t an alarm sounding, it was only the light.

2) could this be an oil pressure sensor of temp sensor?

3) could clogged fuel filters cause the motor to bog down? Doesn’t seem this would cause the check engine light though.

Any ideas?

I would look at the oil pressure switch (not sending unit) and the temperature switch (again, not the sending unit). The sending unit sends a signal to the gauges on the dash. The switches send information to the ECM (computer) and have nothing to do with the gauges in the dash. That's usually what causes the C-E-L. If a switch is bad, then it sends bad info to the ECM and the C-E-L comes on. That's how you can have a C-E-L come on when the dash gauges say that everything seems to be working fine.

Jonny Quest wouldn't there be an audible alarm if either of those was setting off the CEL??

Dealer update - replaced the cam sensor and cleaned up the crank sensor. Problem is fixed. I'll pick up the boat tomorrow and run it on the lake to see how it goes.
