1996 ski nautique gt40 power issue (alternator?)

Boat has been running great all summer other than replacing the battery this season. The past 2 weeks I’ve been feeling this sputtering from the boat at lower speeds. Put some fuel injection cleaner in the tank just because of its age. Yesterday the boat wouldn’t start. Dead battery that took a bit to jump but got started. Took the kids skiing for about 5 minutes and the boat was pulsing (kinda like limp mode but not limp mode) like it was gonna die if you follow. Got it back to the dock and put a volt meter on while running and I was only getting 12.8 volts. I’m pretty certain it’s the alternator but just want to make sure before I start throwing parts at the problem. Are there any voltage regulators are anything else that could cause this issue? Appreciate the help

Got the new alternator in and while installing I found the green wire had broke off its ring terminal. Crimped a new one on and it ran great with 14v at the battery while running. Lesson learned to remove suspected part before buying the replacement.

New alternator on a 30 year old boat is good insurance. Glad you found the problem.

I still have the old one installed because I wanted to confirm it was just the wire causing the issue. Should I let it roll till the original alternator died or install the new one? Takes about 30 minutes to change so it not a huge deal either way. Thoughts?

INSTALL THE NEW ONE. Well...that's what I would do.
