    2000 SAN mystery gasket

so, I'm reworking the ballast routing and pump installation in our 2000 SAN, and I pulled this out of the bilge Sunday night - about 4" x 42" x 1/4" thick IIRC - where did this come from (or more importantly, where should it be???)
    thx all

Maybe under the strap on fuel tank?

      Seems reasonable, definitely strap-shaped...
I've taken apart much of the boat (most of it put back together too), but haven't ever figured out how to get the rear floor panel up. Couldn't find any screws, and was reluctant to start prying...

I am not a SAN owner but it seems the screw heads can disappear in the carpeting. I'd carefully look near the corners and edges of the floor panel.

Looks like the rubber bushing that fits under a tank. Ballast or fuel.

okay, so if that''s an "under the fuel tank" type of thing (I have pulled out the factory ballast)... that seems like an involved replacement job (assuming I'm able to get past my personal problems with the rear floor panel)...

Maybe it was under the factory ballast you pulled out??

Nah, those were hard tanks on either side of the engine (or did I miss some!?). This came from forward in the bilge. I've crammed myself back there enough times since pulling those tanks to be confident it didn't come from those. Good thinking though! Based on what I'm hearing, my gut suggests it's likely fuel tank related given where it came from...

Assuming that 2000 is the same as 99, you need to remove the plastic pieces that form the rear seat base(and possible side seat bases). You at least have to unfasten the horizontal round screw pins that connect the separate plastic bases.. Some of those screws that hold the rear bases in place go right threw and hold the floor down. There also is likely a couple screws hidden in the carpet pile.

That piece you found looks like it it's part of the full tank hold down strap as others have said. I'd inspect once. you get the floor up but it wouldn't shock me if the worker dropped it in the bilge during initial install and just grabbed another one and it eventually worked it ways to the back of the bilge.
