    Holley carb issues

I have a Holley carb on a 5.8. The carb is brand new, not reconditioned or rebuilt. Occasionally it will not idle under about 2000 rpm and is flooding badly. When I remove the spark arrestor to see what is going on the fuyel is pouring out of the secondary jets and the fuel bowl vent. Any experiences like this?
Typical 600 cfm vacuum sec carb. What kind of vacuum problem might cause this?
Of course it happened when I was trying to winterize so the heater will have to stay in a little longer while I sort this out.

Your float is not closing your needle and seat on the secondary side. It is not a vacuum problem.

      All,

Isnt there a problem with angle. If I remember, the floats at the shop are set for a carb sitting flat, but an inboard has a cant/angle and this must be accounted for or the floats dont close. Seem to remember I had to sent the float adjustments on a level trailer then check on the water. Wish I could remember more.

Will check with my boat partner and see if he remembers. I know the guys on correctcraftfan.com would know.

        Another thing,

Hope its a marine carb. Did you get the modified power valves with the check ball to prevent the power valves from being blown out when she backfires (and she will). I think there is an earlier thread where I discussed this on planet....say 2003. I dont think I have my parts list for the holey part numbers of these special power valves. I got lucky and found a Holley lover when I had mine rebuilt. She ran sooooooo good afterwards. To good actually. Had a sweet idle.......which was smooth.

Will check to see if I still have my notes.

What you are saying makes sense. I went through the entact on Holley's web site when I was looking for part number to replace it. They were really prompt with their help and I picked up the recommended model. The fuel bowl vents don't turn in and down into the throat of the carb so in all likely hood it is not set up for the angle of the engine.
I guess I need to get some settings now. Thanks for your help. If anyone comes up with info to reset float it would be appreciated.

If this is a new carb why not take it back for a replacement it should be under warranty, failing that it could be one of two problems:
            1. As indicated above your float adjustment call Holley at 1-2707819741 and provide them the carburetor # and ask them to send you a PDF of the carb specification and setup make sure you indicate what you are trying to do.
            2. After checking float setup and the problem persists you may have a problem with your secondary metering circuit, instead of trying to resolve this problem I would replace the carburetor.

Yup Replace it. With an Edelbrock Marine Carb. I think they are a lot better than the Holley set up.
