    First gen FCT

I have a 97 sport with the first gen FCT, the tower has 3 separate pieces, at 3 of the connections on the center piece it is cracking, and didnt notice until I broke one connection completely in half after a day of riding. (cracks probably from previous owner jumping off of the tower). Can you weld this back to original strength, if so what type of weld (i.e. heliarc). Have already tried stick welding with aluminum and no luck, broke after first run.

Dont want to buy new tower, upgrading boats after summer '07.

tig, or a mig setup for aluminum welding, should do just fine. as long as u know what ur doing and are setup properly, the welds should hold just as good as new.

Andrew, I saw a previous post about your FCT. If you have the first gen tower, what are you doing for a bimini? Does anyone make a top that will fit on that tower somehow?

i dunno, i just got the thing a couple days ago. i probably won't even worry about a bimini for a while (never had one before, so no rush lol) when i do come to the point of wanting one, i'll probably build my own

Let me know if you still have questions about the 1st gen tower and a Bimini. I have one mounted under the tower and works great. Have had my 1st gen crack 3 times at the joints and have kept welding. Will be changing towers out this year after the season.

I have a bimini on mine as well, I can look at who made it and post later. We dive off ours all the time and have never had any cracks or anything.
