Intermittent Horn Beep on 2000 SN

I have a 2000 SN that I have owned for 15 years or more and this has never happened before. This morning the horn started honking intermittently. I started the boat and ran it up and down the lake and the horn continued to honk every 5-10 seconds. the only way I can stop it is to turn off the master switch. The horn works fine when I push the button and is louder when I press the horn button. Seems like maybe only one of the two horns is sounding intermittently and when I press the horn button, both honk.

In case this happens to anyone else, what I found was that the cause is the ignition keypad, which is where the horn button is located. Using suggestion from Woody at Nautique Parts, I disconnected the keypad and the intermittent honking went away. Note that the horn would honk intermittently on its own whether the ignition was ON or OFF. As a temporary solution, I disconnected the horns. I found a thread on this site showing where the horn hot wire goes through the fiberglass wall under the dash and above the kick panel. Mine was different from the picture and confused me at first. I was looking for an orange wire, but what I have is a black wire loom with an orange wire with a bule stripe and a black (ground) wire. I also was lucky that I have a wire connector on those two wires and all I had was to unplug the connector to kill the horns.

I ordered a new key pad but it is black instead of wood grain. So I will likely just save the key pad for another day when it is needed. I live on a private lake so I am not worried about not having a horn.

While doing this search, I also saw a thread showing how to program the keypad. I programmed a simple 2 digit code using a button that was not in my original code. In that thread, I saw two people who said they did not use any code, but I did not see any one respond to the question of how to do that. Anyone know? Click image for larger version

Good find, on the horn disconnect. I would of not thought key pad, but Woody has been doing this long enough he has developed some good tech skills.
Assuming, on a private lake, you don't have annual boat inspections? As worthless as most boat horns are, I still think I would want a noise maker. We carry a back up air horn can, for when the puny beep just isn't enough. I have to keep it away from my wife or I would be buying them by the case, lol.
We run 2 #'s on the pad, thought that was the minimum required, but not sure on your Circa...

I need to correct myself and give credit where it is due. It was David from SkiDim who suggested the ignition key pad and gave me the troubleshooting advice. Woody was also helpful in finding the horns, but the initial advice came from David at SkiDim.

Good to know. I think I've kept their lights on over there for a couple of months, over the many years of $.
Random, but this shot made SkiDim's calendar in 2017. Funny thing is your picture makes their calendar, and then you have to buy it if you want a copy, gee.

HaHa, whoops thought I was on the Supra Blog, my bad.
That was back when you could buy a boat and sell it for more than you paid for it 15 years later. Not accounting for the 10 forward & rear facing Recon lights.
Water color picture memories, raised a Family in that boat...
                Good times!
