Yeah they are kinda deep the picture doesn't show the depth of the mark. Looks like someone didn't have the boat strapped all the way up and it bounced off the winch, pretty good divot there, will need to be filled. It why I may start here first to check the color match I get.

So have to ask who is the better gel coat folks for matching color, Spectrum or Mini-Craft?

I've only used Spectrum, but their colors have always matched perfectly.

I too have only used Spectrum and had great results until about 3 years ago on the neighbors Robalo. Don't know if it was a Covid thing but both colors they sent us we off by several shades. The red and white I got for my current boat back in 2019 were both near perfect.

Agree with starting on the bow mark first. If I were going at this one, I would sand (block out) as much as I could conservatively do and run through the process as if you were doing the finished project, then go back and see what needs to be filled. You might be surprised on just how little needs to be filled.

Agree with Rednucleus, unless there is something there we're not seeing. Might try some Goof Off, or Acetone on that. Acetone works on fresh gel removal also, if you end up with it in places you weren't planning on - not that I know anything about that.

I have bought silver cloud from Spectrum for my 95 and it was darker. I have also sent a piece of my Mustang in to mini craft to match and after spending the extra money for that it was off as well. Bottom line is you have to buy the tints too and adjust for your application- it's what the pro's do whether it's gel or paint

I would be tentative in doing tints. Good to know about the silver cloud. I do need to get a small paste kit for a couple of chips on underside of the boat. Not too worried about that being seen.
