    GT-40 not sucking water

I bought the boat a week ago and took a nice long ride. Temp never went over 140. Tonight I hooked up a fake a lake and the boat wouldn't suck any water through. Water strainer was dry and the fake a lake was spewing water everywhere. Do these really not work? I couldn't disconnect the intake hose from the through hull easily. I didn't want to ruin the hose pulling. Tomorrow I am going to dip it in the lake and try. Am I missing something?

Fake a lakes are notorious for not working. This is what you need- the hardest part is finding the T to fit the size of your hose you connect to that's before your raw water pump. some Ace Hardware's have them especially ones that have irrigation supplies, Home Depot has the other 2 parts. Here it is mounted in my Super Sport just before the strainer. I also have a quick snap on fitting in this picture which is up to you to use. You connect the hose, turn on the valve and start the engine- excess water will come out the intake port of the boat but that's ok. When done you turn off the valve and disconnect the hose - nothing could be easier. It's been nicknamed the Timmy T and was on Correct Craft Fan if you do a search

Amazon sells the TEE fitting. Search for 1" X 1" X 3/4" FPT tee barb: Link
Then you add an adapter for the 3/4" FPT to garden hose. You can also purchase a Plug or Cap to securely close off the garden hose adapter when the hose is not connected up.

I've got something very similar on my 2003 Ski Nautique.

Ok. I found all the parts and installed this week. The hose dumped all of the water out of the bottom of the boat and the engine didn’t really suck any water through until I stuffed a rag in the fake a lake and shoved it under the boat to create back pressure. Is there supposed to be another valve below to partially shut?

Does your boat have a seacock valve installed on the raw water line? If yes, close that. Otherwise you'll need to block the raw water pickup in some manner.

I don't believe all Nautiques have a seacock valve factory installed. Pretty sure my '97 did not have a factory seacock valve installed. My '04 does.

Like I said in my original post- water will come out the the intake grate- no need to block it off. The pump will pull what water it needs. This has worked for years on other Nautiques and works on mine and the 2 Shamrocks I own. Something else is up that you need to check

Gary, that’s what I assumed would happen. The fact that the boat didn’t suck from the fake a lake makes me think the impeller is doing the bare minimum. I ordered a new one but haven’t installed it yet. Hopefully that fixes it. I just wasn’t sure if others had the same issue and fixed it with a new impeller.

Make sure you smear some hand dish soap on the impeller when installing the impeller in the housing. That will help the install go faster and will help to prime the system and suck water up into the pump. Your "TEE" is all that you need to run the boat on a garden hose -- assuming that the impeller is in good shape. Let us know how it works out.
