Engine Replacement and Resetting Hours

I have a 2022 G23 and had the dealer replace the engine with a new one from PCM recently. They are telling me the hours on the engine ECM will be '0', but they cannot reset the hours that are displayed in the LINC screen on the dash.

Looking for input or comments from anyone who has had experience with this. It seems that it should displayed 0 hours on the screen. If I go to sell it in the future, how will someone check the ECM hours vs the displayed hours on the LINC screen?

Keep your paperwork from the dealership that it was replaced at x hours. The screen cannot be set to zero as the boat still has that many hours on it. If the buyer doesn't believe you they can take it in and get the ecm hour reading for the motor.

IMO what you have will actually be more honest and reflect the true run time of the boat. Document the current hours of the boat with photo/video along with the documentation of the engine replacement. This should suffice as appreciate documentation to any future buyer as the the engine hours and total hours on the boat. If you want more, you could always take the boat to the dealer and have the ECU scanned for hours just prior to putting the boat up for sale along with another set of documentation to validate your claim.

Curious…what happened to the engine for it to have to be replaced? How many hours did you have on it?

Thank you for the responses. Agree, getting the paperwork documenting what was replaced is a great idea. Since my post, I learned that PCM sent the dealer a long block for replacement so everything attached to the old engine was swapped into the new long block - including the ECM. They said on the backend, they register the new engine serial to the boat and register it as 0 hours/new engine.

To answer the question on of what happened. Boat has 108 hours on it - never had an issue with engine whatsoever. Went out on a Wednesday for a few hours, no issues. Went out on Friday, couldn't get the boat to start. After dealer had it for a few days, they called back and said the engine was seized. After a few more weeks, worked to get engine (long block) replaced. When they pulled the manifold off the original engine, they were able to see that a valve broke. No explanation as to why or how that happened. They also found that the inner rubber boot on the flywheel damper plate was torn.
