Changing the transmission fluid on a 2016 G23

I just bought my first boat ever, a 2016 Nautique G23. The previous owner appears to have taken really good care of it, but when I took possession of it he mentions that I should change the engine oil and transmission fluid before we head out on the water. He said he always did it in the spring, so he hadn't done it yet himself.

I'm pretty handy around cars and have a heated shop where I store the boat, so I have a great workspace and tools; I've just never worked on a boat before. Can anyone here point me in the right direction for step-by-step instructions or a video?

BTW, this is my first post on the forum, and apparently I need to be verified human by posting several times before the admins will see existing content, so posting away!

First thing to do is identify which engine you have and obtain the PCM (engine) owners manual. The sticky section above has a variety of written procedures. Jeff also has most manuals on the site.

both jobs are straight forward, on the engine oil & filter there is a drain hose you will need to snake down through the hole for the drain plug. Since the oil filter is remote mounted - slide a large zip lock bag over it with absorption material in it to catch it when you unthread it to prevent getting oil in the bilge.

on the transmission you need an extractor to pull it out, only replace what you pull out, do not overfill.

ideally this is done at the end of the season. You want to pull the boat after running it up to operating temp and then change the oil. You can run it in the driveway by hooking up a water supply to feed the cooling system. Do not run it without a water feed as you will fry the rubber impeller in the raw water pump. Search for threads on how to do this. Your boat might have a hose fitting and shutoff valves built in.

if you don’t know how old the impeller is, replace it as it’s cheap insurance.good luck, and welcome to the forum.

A separate item to consider is was the boat winterized when you took delivery? If it gets cold where you are, you need to drain the water out of the cooling system to prevent the block freezing and cracking it. Most Nautiques are raw water cooled, meaning they pull in lake water off the bottom of the boat and cycle it through the system and spit it out the back along with the exhaust. See the winterization sticky threads above if this is germane in your case.
