    2001 SAN engine running issues

Hi everyone, I'm having engine trouble with our "new to us" 2001 Super Air Nautique.
Quick backstory: I bought the boat from a Harley dealership after the previous owner traded it in during a divorce. He claimed it was mechanically sound and had been stored unused in a climate-controlled shop since summer 2023. The dealer didn’t know anything about boats and it was a quick sell in the winter, so I couldn’t do a water test before buying.
At home, I charged the battery, hooked up water, and the engine started right up. It went into forward and reverse fine on the trailer.
This past weekend was our first time on the water. The tank had 1/8 to 1/4 gas, and I added 18 gallons without draining the old fuel—probably a mistake. It started fine, idled well, and reversed without issue. But when I put it in forward and throttled up, it ran rough, shuddered, and stalled. It would restart after cranking, but stall again under forward throttle. It runs fine in neutral and reverse.
I plan to change the FCC filter (current one looks clean) and clean the throttle body. Spark plugs look good. Based on this, what would you check next?
    Thanks!

This should help - GT40 service manual - https://www.planetnautique.com/Corre...e%20Manual.pdf There's a diagnostic flowchart in section 3 for stalling under acceleration.

My guess - one of your ECU sensors has failed but you'll need the STAR diagnostic tool to ID which one. Sadly, the GT40 is pre OBDII. A Nautique dealer or boat repair shop should be able to scan.

The GT40 is based on a Ford truck engine and you can get automotive equivalents (lower $$) for a lot of the parts. If you start swapping sensors, try taking them to your local parts start and see if they can use the markings to ID the off the shelf Ford part.
2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)
1997 Masters Edition Nautique - Zephyr Green - gone (amazing ski wake)
1982 Mastercraft Powerslot - gone (a primitive but wonderful beast)

I just had a similar issue last weekend. started up fine on the trailer the night before. started up at the dock. as soon as we pulled off it stalled out. low pressure fuel pump wire was off completely. I must have bumped it hard enough to disconnect when installing the center plug. Check your wire leading to that, may be corroded or loose.
