    RE: Powdercoat question

I had a bunch of parts powder coated for about $40 a couple years ago. I used All-Brite in Coulumbus TX, but I am not sure if they are still around.

Finally got the rack completed -- $60. There don't seem to be a ton of powder coaters in my area and this guy seemed really cool, so I just went with him. Seems to have done a great job!

Unfortunately I haven't pulled the boat out of storage yet so can't see what it's going to look like. I'm definitely pleased with the results, tho.

        Another Powdercoat question

Does anyone know if the colored towers that came from the factory were powdercoated or if they were painted?

My red tower has some scratches and is looking faded and I'm checking on getting it repowdercoated while it's off (so i can drill holes in the deck for tower speaker wire) and the guy asked me if it was painted or pwdrcoated. I really don't know?

          RE: Another Powdercoat question

The factory doesn't actually color the towers... if your tower came red "from the factory," chances are that they had Ram-Lin paint it; I know they do that a lot. However, a lot of times dealers order the tower unfinished so it can be either pained or powdercoated locally. But, again, if it came "from the factory," then it was probably done by Ram-Lin, and they only do paint...

Its pretty easy to tell which is which, too. Powdercoated towers usually have a lot less shine to them, and also usually are a little coarser (sp?). The pro is that they do not scratch easily and are much more durable. Thus, it makes sense that you see scratches clearly, b/c that would add up well with my guess that it was painted well at ramlin. My fam's tower is powdercoated and the only time you can see scratches are when you look up closely at exactly where a branch or where the metal tips of the bimini may have it. Even so, you do not see silver when powdercoating is scratched, just a lighter shade of the color... hope this helps...

So prior to the anodized towers if you had a standard black tower - was it powdercoated or painted? I can buy into Ramlin painting the tower because it matches exactly the paint on my trailer.

Painted unless your dealer did some thing different.

Mine is powdercoated, because my dealer made a special 3 tone scheme for his boat show.
