The magnets do not adjust the RPMs. They only provide timing for the system.

In a sense, the magnets do adjust the rpm's. When the system reads the entrance gates, a percentage of the skier value is added to the baseline rpm. If the system reads the entrance gates but doesn't read the three ball magnet, it will drop the skier value out before the end of the course. To operate properly you must have magnets on at least the entrance gates and 3 ball or use the hand timing switch to manually trigger. Without this the skier value will never be added and your times will be slow. The only way around this is to bump your baselines and run without a skier value. If you bump them the correct amount you can get good times, but you will be killing your skier through the gates, since you will essentially be entering the course 1/2 to 3/4 mph hot and letting the skier pull the speed down. Not too pleasant at the gates doing this.

Thanks for the clarification, Dave. I forgot about that. Man, winter isn't good for my ski knowledge.

SAWEET!! We have open water on the main channel over here. Going to try and hit it this week some time. I'm dying to start chasing those buoys though.
