    Refinished my swim platform!!!

It's needed it for a long time, but since yesterday was too cold to go to the lake, and today was too windy, I worked on the platform!!
I sanded it with 150 grit paper, then 100, then 220. After that I used a teak kit to finish it.

    Before...

    Partially sanded...

    Fully sanded...

    Then the finished product!!!!! Yippee!!

I put 2 coats on it, and it will probably get another coat or 2 in a few months.

What teak kit did you use? I used a kit I got at Academy and the color never looked like it should. I put 5 coats on and it still seems to be soaking the oil up.

I have it on good authority that regular old starbrite teak oil is the way to go. That said, I had trouble finding it locally and have used Amazon teak oil the last two years.

Larry, it looks great! I had my annual Presidents Day platform oiling session yesterday.

                  Wow! Looks great Doug!!!

Gizmo, I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. I'll look tomorrow and let you know. Mine has taken now 4 coats. The wood is super dry so therefore needs a lot of oil.

I had to reinstall my brackets last year, so I did the full sand and lots of oil last year. The beauty of this year was that I just rubbed it with some fine steel wool and applied one coat of oil and it looks good as new.

For anyone who is interested in having their platform look like a fine piece of antique furniture, I recommend the Harold Powell method. Since I'm just going to throw a slalom ski on mine, I really don't have the inclination to take it to this level, but here's a link to an article on his teak refinishing tutorial for what it's worth.

I know G-Man can vouch for this method.

I just picked up an orbital sander today so I can do mine here shortly. Any words of wisdom before I get started? I have 80, 120, and 200 grit sandpaper. I read the MC write up, but I can find that fine of paper anywhere!

Watch the 80 grit on the orbital.... you may see swirls.

Ya, as you can see... my platform was in pretty bad shape, but 120 was really all I needed. I'd be a little hesitant about the 80 in an orbital.
