    Upholstery Job

Anyone know the ballpark on what it would cost to get my interior re-upholstered? I found a very reputable shop in the area and I would trust them to use their own materials to do the job correctly.

Would they be able stitch-in the CC logo?

    RE: Upholstery Job

I assume you are replacing all the vinyl. How about the foam? Any seat bases or panels need repair?

The shop will not be able to produce the logo- at least legally. This is one of the reasons I got my new skins through CC. The other benefits include top quality foam-backed vinyl, UV-resistant thread, and precise fit (since theyre made using the original pattern).

To give you an idea on cost, my skins cost ~$2500. A local shop will likely be cheaper. Ive gotten quotes to install everything, including all new foam (but no seat base repair) for $1200.

Joel I think I might buy the skins with the logos and then let the shop match the material and color. That way the cost would be a little more but you would still have the logos.

thanks for the replies. Yeah, I would love nothing more than to keep it original on the interior and have the CC logo. However, I got a quote from Midwest CC on the skins and it was outrageous ($2500+ for just the vinyl).

The shop that will be doing the job comes highly recommended and is very "old school" in their craftsmanship. I am trying to stay in the $1200-1500 ballpark...so I think I'll go ahead without the CC skins. I figure its worth asking if he would be willing to stitch in the CC logo...??

Yeah, you might as well. It can't hurt to ask the shop if they can do the logo, the worst he'll say is no...

Wondering if it is illegal to duplicate the logo when not being done for the purpose of resale/distribution?
One would think as a one off being done as a repair would make reproduction legal?

I believe Quinner is right. If you are not reselling, I believe it is o.k.. Some shops may require written permission from CC though just to cover themselves if there ever was an issue.

I think if you were to add the embroidery yourself, that would be perfectly legal. Not sure if the shop would be allowed to sell you the product with the logo- might be a gray area. It doesnt hurt to ask.

I had my done by a friend who owns a shop run from her house. I was 1200 and they put new foam and put a more durable stitch than the original. She called to ask and was told no to duplicating the logo. I am happy enough without. The interior looks great. What I don't get is what's the big deal. How many sets of skins can they sell for old Nautiques. It must be alot, because MWCC was backed up for 4 months when I called also.

FYI....Dropped the boat off this morning to the upholstery shop. He said it wouldn't be any trouble at all to embroider the Nautique logo onto the new vinyl. He charges an additional $75 to embroider each logo.

Keep the shop name to yourself. We don't want CC to go after them for copyright infringement.

I would say that even if someone PMs you for their name don't give it out, as it could be a CC employee.

I personally don't see an issue if a shop does a couple custom jobs, but if the shop was to flood the market with CC logo'd stuff, then there would be a major issue. BTW, if the shop is selling the logo'd stuff to you, they are doing it for profit, so technically they would be violating CC's copyright on it.

but if the shop also sews anything AT ALL in the shape of a wakeboard tower, that is patent infringement Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

The voices ARE real, but I am not too sure of the ideas. Might just have to try them to make sure!
