    2003 SAN210 ballast water intake ball valves

    Learning my new 2003 SAN210.

    Question

    The ballast water intake mechanical ball valves those with those long SS torsion rods. Operated under the engine cover.
    Normally those ball valves turn exactly 90dgr. I cant close them completely in my opinion, only 80dgr if you ask me.
    A lot of force can not be applied over those long SS tosion rods.
    The ball valves turn not heavy, for their size.

    Anyone experienced the same? What to do? Modificate the thin operating rods?

    The Ball valves in the engine compartment should close 100%. Can't you turn them fully by hand instead of the SS rods?
    And for your manually flow-right valves (controlled at the helm) you can get some replacement valves which will work automatically with the filling pump. Do a search for; flow-right valves, at this forum and everything should be clear!

      Hi Tom,

      First out 2007!!!!!!!! Did not see you.

      Big wake appears for surf at 15kmh and for board at 35 kmh, possibly calibrate the speedos.

      Ball valves do not have a direct handle but only the indirect long rod which twist.

      See you riverside? Temp 20+ !!! And glass water. Can not wait.

        Hey Jos,

        Can't you still turn them by hand, but close at the pump?
        Speed seems right. We normally surfed at 9,3-9,7Mph (so about 15kmph). And wakeboard at 22-23mph (35kmph).

        I don't know if I'm going to the river this weekend. I need new wakeboard bindings because I ripped mine last monday at the cablepark. Probably doing that this saturday or so, next weekend is work and I hope I have time after that to start to work on my own boat to summerized it... Still need to install the towerspeakers, lights, shower and other funstuff.. And figure out the details for the propane system.

        A favour: can I borrow 2 plastic tanks and the black, iron propane tank from you next week for 2 hours? I will check how and if everything will fit in the back, because of the Team ballast tanks in the back. That way I know what to order and make that system 100%...

        How was the watertemp?? I heard Edwin was there with you! Good to hear.

          Yep,

          Come and get it.

          Plasitic saturday morning only back at 1200hr, so come early. Hit the river for 3 days.
          Steel 32ltr net, top fill, is an original can be kept for a while. Goes with the 1990-SN.
          Steel 44ltr net, copycat, can be made easily. Same lenght but larger diameter and 45dgr side fill.

            Jos, sometimes the orientation of the valve affects whether you can turn that long
            handle 90 degrees. In other words, if the valve is not sitting parrallel to the
            centerline of the boat, the closing arm might not seem like it is turning 90 degrees
            (but it probably is). When you look down at those valves, you'll see that they
            may be off center because other hardware is in the way. Those ball valves are
            usually rock solid and are not typically the source of a problem.

              I just got an 03 210 myself and am just learning this boat also. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these valves you speak of are not intended to be opened and closed on a regular basis right? They are an emergency shut off valve. The flow right control at the helm is the one you use on a regular basis and the ones under the engine compartment should always stay open. I did test mine just so I knew how it worked, but other than that, I don't plan on opening and closing them. Do I have this right?

              Also, another question while I'm here. I have a fiberglass swim deck and am wondering why the transom tie down hooks are covered by a plastic housing. There is a sepparate cover for each hook and with the covers there, it makes it impossible to use them to strap the boat to the trailer. Any thoughts?

                Timsown, you are correct about the valves. I close them every now and then to keep the tanks from filling since the flow right valves suck and don't close off all the way. Hopefully this won't ba a problem anymore since I replaced them with the TH marine valves.

                All the swim decks have those housings. I think their purpose is to keep water from slashing up and maybe to keep carbon monoxide fumes to a minimum above the deck. I guess there is nothing keeping you from removing the housings if you want to strap the boat down. but the screw holes need to be filled in to keep water from rotting the fiberglass. I don't think you really need to strap it down though, assumming your trailer is made for that boat. With all the weight from the engine on the rear on the boat, I don't see it moving around much.

                  technically, ur "tie down" hooks are lifting rings. there are all kinds or "safety" reasons that the covers could be for..... foot/ankle injuries, CO (well 2 reasons anyway... lol)
                  u shouldn't have any issues with pulling the covers off and tying it down. but i'd probably put them back on when u hit the water...

                    Tie the boat the down from the swim platform brackets. Correct Craft suggest this and it works fine.
