First time correct craft owner with my recent purchase of an '01 sport nautique (GT40 engine) and have a dumb question. I can't seem to get the clear strainer "cup" to unscrew from the engine. I figured it rotated counter clockwise, but it won't turn with reasonable force. I probably just need to twist harder, but wanted to make sure I am not going about this the wrong way. I searched the forum for past posts with no luck. Any help would be great, thanks!

Yes., Counter Clockwise, but remember you are looking at it from the opposite side... so you're actually turning it clockwise when looking down at it! (At least that's the way it's mounted in my SV211). If overtightened, it can be very hard to break loose.
PS.. don't loose the O-ring when you do get it off. I even have an extra O-ring in the glove box - you'd hate to dump that nasty seaweed over the side of the boat and watch the O-ring disappear.. that would make for the end of a good day at the lake!2005 SV211

I had to use an oil filter wrench to get my old one off, I think the threads got messed up. Ended up buying a new one from skidim and its easy on and off.\'95 SN Signature Ed.

Helpful hint... I used an extra water filter to make an inlet for a garden hose to run the boat on land... much cheaper than the flush kits and easier to install.. Drill a hole in the bottom of a water filter cover and put a hose fitting on it with rubber gasket on each side.. when you use the hose just close the lakewater gate valve just before the input to the water filter. my strainer is mounted slightly above parallel to the floor. it seems to me that it should be in a position so that it appears to be sitting on a table like a glass of water. if it does need to be changed how can I do this?

LakeaustinSN - Try using the "right hand rule" for figuring out which way to turn it. To do so, just put your right hand under the thing you are trying to unscrew, point your thumb in the direction you want it to go, and then curl your fingers which indicates the direction to turn it. The cool thing about the right hand rule is it works no matter what your orientation is (like upside down underneath a car while taking the drain plug out).

it's an 05 210 ex330 w/ closed loop and perko flush. basically when you are in the boat and open the engine hatch the strainer is right there to the left of the pylon. it looks like there's room to mount it so that stuff settles into it, but i just want to know if it's not working b/c of the way it's mounted. the old secc did the work(shabbily). should i change it or is it ok? i've seen other strainers mounted this way too, but for some reason i have the feeling it should be mounted similarly to the oil filter.
